I can’t lie, sometimes I feel a little lost on my books, if that makes any kind of sense...
Love Thy Fro came out in December 2015 and, since then, it’s been nothing but love from everyone that has come into contact with the book. But, sometimes, I feel like I’ve been doing this for a while now and it's like...where do I go from here? Are people tired of the book now? Has it run its course?
Being a self-published author in the way that I am is not easy; juggling the creative side of things with the business side of things and the marketing and promotion is NOT easy! It’s easy to feel overwhelmed at times but, when I receive certain messages, it really does help to make it all worthwhile and remind me how my books are meeting new people everyday, and how they continue to impact these new people.
I recently sent some books to LaTavia Roberson, one of the founding members of Destiny’s Child. I had watched an interview she did with Sister Circle, an American chat show, where she spoke about motherhood and the recent loss of her baby late in her pregnancy. As she discussed what she had gone through, and how she had persevered, I couldn’t help but think “wow, this woman is superwoman”. I’m not a mother, but you don’t have to be one to know that going through such an experience is not easy. I immediately wanted to send her some of my books to enjoy with her first born, Lyric, and she FACETIMED me back to say thank you! Yeah I was gassed! Lol.
